For the past week, I have been insanely bitter & angry & just exhausted over the things happening in this town, and the surrounding communities.
I haven't shared with many my thoughts or just how strong my feelings on topics have been.
There was a child that was laid to rest yesterday in my town. One week prior to that, I watched the city police, the volunteer firefighters & first responders & the ambulances arrive to that house following the 911 call they received.
I have heard the talk, I have read the news reports from the press releases, and I have my very own gut feelings on things. None of which are positive things.
I have followed the updates on Willow's case. Which I don't understand either.
I will never be able to empathize with parents who don't make their children one of their highest priorities. It is something I just cannot comprehend, yet we are surrounded by it.
I have yelled at God about how unfair it is. I have talked to a few close friends. I have cried myself to sleep every night this past week & I am fighting back tears right now.
But I am a firm believer in this: If you are discouraged by something, you likely have the power to change it.
And that is the choice I am making today. I won't be one who stands aside & just talks about it, I will be one who attempts to reach out & hopefully keep the tragedies from happening. I don't think that I can do it without our great God tho!!
Local mom friends reading this:
1) There is a new group meeting this coming Monday evening. It's a mom & child thing. It is a monthly group meeting, put together with the intent of making relationships to use throughout the month for support in just being a mom....for help on the hard days & someone to share news with on the good days. It is at the church we regularly attend and there will be a speaker each month to cover various topics (parenting, cooking, relationships, school information, etc) More information on my facebook page later about when/where!
2) I am prayerfully working towards starting a troop in our town for American heritage Girls. It's a faith based troop that works similar to girl scouts but with the backing of church & more focus of involvement in the community. I am soon meeting with a church nearby to discuss being the charter organization in our town. I think it would be a great gateway for girls & their families to find church & support from other families who are most likely neighbors in our tiny tiny town.
Please keep these 2 endeavors in your prayers. Both are very much needed outlets in our current times.
